Are you dreaming of an Offline Christmas?
We love watching movies and TV specials at Christmas but if all your family members are looking at individual screens, the holidays can quickly lose their sparkle.
A digital detox doesn’t mean ditching devices forever – it’s just a chance to swap Wi-Fi for real connection for a few days.
Here are seven fun ways to make magical Christmas memories without your phone.
1. Make tech-free meals the new normal
Before you sit down for Christmas dinner, collect everyone’s phones in a “holiday basket.” If you want to take photos, have a designated photographer who’s allowed to access their phone just for that reason!
2. Game night revival
Pull out old-school board games or try something new – charades, Pictionary, or even a holiday-themed trivia quiz. You’ll be surprised how quickly the competitive spirit takes over (and by the craic that ensues when things get really silly!).
3. Go on a family walk
It’s always nice to go for a walk after a big meal so bundle up, grab some hot cocoa, and head out to admire the neighbourhood’s Christmas decorations. Not only are you getting some fresh air and exercise, if you get in step with someone you haven’t had a proper chat with in a while, it’s a great way to reconnect.
4. Bake up a storm
When the house is full of family or visitors coming and going, there’s a good chance the kettle will be in constant use and there will always be an appetite of delicious baking! Cookies, gingerbread houses, or a simple batch of brownies – hand over the sprinkles to the kids and let them decorate however they like (no screen needed for inspiration!).

5. Sing loud, sing proud
Carols aren’t just for choirs and you don’t have to be a ‘good singer’ to get involved! Take a deep breath, get a copy of the lyrics and belt out holiday classics together. Bonus points if someone accompanies on a musical instrument or can make music from props, toys or decorations around the house…
6. Do some Christmas arts and crafts
Sit down with colourful pens, stickers, and glitter and make holiday cards with your family. Write silly jokes, heartfelt messages, or draw reindeer stick figures. Trust us, friends and grandparents will treasure them far more than a quick text.
7. Wrap up the year with stories
Before the night ends, gather around the tree and share your favourite memory of the past year – or the funniest moment from the few days you’ve just spent together. It’s a wonderful way to reflect on another trip around the sun and feel closer to the people who mean the most to you.
