ALONE – Charity Partner 2020

Each year Christmas FM partners with a charity who becomes our official charity partner for that year. This year it’s the turn of ALONE.

Christmas FM and ALONE

Christmas FM wants to “Give the Gift of Home”  enabling older people to stay in their homes for as long as they wish.

This year Christmas FM aims to raise funds to enable ALONE to provide over 20,000 hours of vital support to older people in Ireland enabling them to live happily and independently in their own homes and communities, as there is no place like home – especially at Christmas time.

ALONE is a national organisation that strives to enable older people to age at home, safely and securely, for as long as they wish. They work with all older people, including those who are lonely, isolated, frail or ill, homeless, living in poverty, or are facing other difficulties. They provide an integrated system of Support Coordination, Practical Supports, Befriending, a variety of Phone Services, Social Prescribing, Housing with Support, and assistive technology. They use support plans, provide a point of contact for access to health, social care, housing, transport, and other arising needs using technology and other services and activities to improve physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing. They have nearly 3000 volunteers throughout the Country who conduct and provide practical supports to older people, visits and phone calls, linking older people into social activity, and being a companion.

Seán Moynihan, CEO of ALONE – “We are incredibly honoured and excited to be the charity partner for Christmas FM this year. Our “Give the Gift of Home” campaign resonates so highly and thoughtfully with what we hope to achieve through this partnership – raising necessary funds to enable older people to stay in their homes for as long as they wish. Loneliness, poverty and homelessness in older age can, unfortunately, be indiscriminate and these issues now form a nationwide crisis, a global problem.”

“ALONE provide a range of personalised, quality-assured services enabling people to age positively at home throughout Ireland. We are committed to influencing national policy and playing a leadership role in the implementation of national programmes, all supporting people to age with security. We believe that through ALONE Service Hubs, our Housing, assistive technology, countless partnerships, with our Volunteers behind us, we can work towards an Ireland where every older person has the support to age happily and securely at home. We hope that listeners to Christmas FM can share this journey with us and ensure that we can reach out and talk to and support as many older people as we possibly can nationwide.”

“We are determined to make this the best and most meaningful Christmas ever as COVID-19 has made this such a trying year for all individuals. Our older generation has been asked to cocoon making their home the only safe location for them. We want everyone’s house to be a home and we hope we can achieve this through our Christmas FM partnership this year.”

“Our Give the Gift of Home” campaign in partnership with Christmas FM will enable them to provide support coordination to older people across Ireland, keeping them secure and safe in their own homes.

Home means more than a roof over your head.
Home means safety.
Home means security.
Home means belonging.
At Christmas, home is more important than ever.
Help us make home ‘home’ again for older people across Ireland.
