Sightsavers is an international charity working in the world’s poorest countries to eliminate avoidable blindness and promote equal opportunities for people with disabilities.
Right now, 36 million people around the world are blind, but 75% of this can be cured or prevented. Shocked by this? So are we. But you can help us do something about it.
This Christmas, Sightsavers and Christmas FM are asking you to give the gift of sight to people like Ismail.
With your support, we aim to more than provide 5,000 life-changing cataract operations to restore people’s sight and give them the freedom to learn, earn and live happier lives.
Ismail was born with cataracts in both eyes. For babies, it’s vital that this condition is dealt with as early as possible; if it’s not, their sight will never develop properly and they could be blind forever.
Ismail was lucky: his parents realised there was a problem and took him to a doctor. But when they found out he needed an operation, they were devastated – the cost was more than they could ever afford.
The support they needed came from people like you. Donations from Sightsavers supporters have, for years, meant that children such as Ismail and their families can receive care that would otherwise be far beyond their means.
Ismail is one of the lucky ones – he got his miracle. When he opened his eyes after his bandages came off and saw light for the first time, it was an amazing moment. His mother was overjoyed and covered him in kisses.
This Christmas, your support will give the gift of sight to other children like Ismail.
Give the Gift of Sight
A small donation can change a life. Donate today and the UK government will match your gift pound for pound, so it will go twice as far this Christmas.
You can change someone’s life this Christmas. Will you give the gift of sight?
Sightsavers’ vision is of a world where no one is blind from avoidable causes and where people with visual impairments participate equally in society.
Since our work began, our donors have helped us provide 6.1 million cataract surgeries and 332,000 trachoma operations. Our donors have also helped us to support more than 180,000 people with disabilities, enabling them to live full and independent lives.
Every penny you give is vital in achieving Sightsavers’ goal of eliminating avoidable blindness and promoting equality for people with disabilities.
Donate today and your gift will be doubled by the UK government! The income raised from this appeal will be matched by the UK government, pound for pound, until 9 January 2018, so your gift will go even further. The funds raised through UK Aid Match will support our cataract projects in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
