Christmas recipes: 3 simple festive treats the whole family can make

If you’re looking for delicious recipes to make with your children this Christmas, try out these three for a fun afternoon in the kitchen!

1. Christmas Snowballs

Ingredients

  • 2 oz or 55g dessicated coconut
  • 2 oz or 55g drinking chocolate or cocoa powder
  • 2 oz or 55g butter (or even coconut oil)
  • ½ tin condensed milk (7oz/200g approx.)
  • 14 digestive biscuits/graham crackers (7oz/200g approx.)
  • 1 packet marshmallows (you won’t need them all!)
  • fine coconut, for coating

Instructions

  • Melt the butter and mix with the crushed digestives, drinking chocolate, coconut and condensed milk.
  • Use this mixture to cover a marshmallow, rolling each into a neat round ball. If your hands are damp while you do this, it makes things a lot easier. Also try not to have too much biscuit mixture around the outside – you really want a much greater ratio of marshmallow to biscuit mix!
  • Toss the covered marshmallows in coconut to cover and place in the fridge to set. And Enjoy!

2. Easy Christmas Rocky Road

Ingredients

  • 100g mini gingerbread cookies (plus extra for topping)
  • 100g red & green M&Ms (plus extra for topping)
  • 50g mini marshmallows
  • 3tbsp festive sprinkles (plus extra for topping)
  • 520g white chocolate, melted

Instructions

  • Line an 8″ baking tray with baking paper.
  • Add all the ingredients to a bowl and mix them together.
  • Pour the mix into your baking tray and level it out.
  • Top with some mini gingerbread cookies, red & green M&Ms and festive sprinkles.
  • Refrigerate for 1-2 hours. Enjoy!

3. Christmas Bark

Ingredients

  • 2 white chocolate bars
  • 2 dark chocolate bars
  • 2 milk chocolate bars
  • Red and green M&Ms
  • White chocolate chips
  • Crushed candy canes (or other sweets of choice)
  • Multi-coloured sprinkles
  • Mini pretzels

Instructions

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and place 6 chocolate bars (white chocolate, dark chocolate, and milk chocolate) in a flat, even layer.
  • Bake for 8-10 minutes on the centre rack of the oven on a very low heat.
  • Swirl the chocolate bars together with a chopstick or skewer until you can no longer see the original lines from the bars.
  • Decorate the bark.
  • If you’re in a hurry, you can freeze the bark for 30 minutes or refrigerate for an hour. Letting it harden at room temperature will prevent condensation.
  • Break the bark into pieces and enjoy!
