Ed Sheeran and Elton John set sights on Christmas no. 1 with ‘Merry Christmas’!

Music legends Elton John and Ed Sheeran teamed up this year to create a new holiday song and it has all the makings of a Christmas classic!

The Christmas duet is called ‘Merry Christmas’ and has everything you could think of for a holiday hit!

In a radio interview earlier this year, Sheeran spilled that the ‘Rocketman’ hitmaker had suggested that they record a holiday song together in Christmas 2020.

At first, Ed wasn’t so keen but soon changed his mind and their song “Merry Christmas” was released on December 3rd 2021.

It quickly gained popularity on the airwaves and flew straight in at No. 1 in the charts!

This marks an extraordinary year for the duo – it’s the second no. 1 hit for 74-year-old Elton and the third for Ed who also released his long-awaited album Equals on October 29th.

Of course, it remains to be seen whether the pop icons will be able to hold their position until December 25th but we reckon they have a pretty good chance!

Making the video wasn’t an entirely smooth process however, as Sheeran was convinced that he had injured Elton at one point.

Sheeran said: “We just shot a Christmas music video. Oh, mate. I almost killed him with a bell… On the video.’

Sure enough, it is how Ed Sheeran described it, as the bell soars right past his head as people off-camera look on in brief horror. But both celebs are thankfully safe and well!
