Great ideas from design fair Gifted

Ireland’s biggest craft and design fair Gifted is on in the RDS this weekend with over 400 vendors but if you can’t   make it you can still check out some of the wonderful loot on display on the Gifted website.

The fair is open till 9pm tonight (Friday 2nd December) and Saturday and Sunday from 10am till 6pm.

There will be tonnes of good cheer floating around and free workshops which will more than justify the ten euro entry fee for OAPs, twelve euro for adults with kids under 16 skipping in free.

There is something for every budget at the fair – from bespoke statement pieces to affordable stocking stuffers.

“The Fair is a huge boost to the independent creative sector, it is vital to the industry as a whole and it is estimated that it generates enough business to keep many exhibitors busy for at least four months of the year,” organiser, Patrick O’Sullivan told us.

But if you are nowhere near Dublin, you already have plans or are having an easy, cosy weekend at home (listening to Christmas FM !) the Gifted website is a fertile hunting ground for sustainable, Irish made gifts – it does not have exactly what is on offer at the fair mind you but there’s lots of jewellery, ceramics, art, children’s gifts and yummy food stuff on :

And while you are not getting Dealz prices we reckon it’s better to buy only a few choice items and try to support Irish made stuff.

Here is what jumped out at us.

Who would not want a lovely message in a card and some deadly socks from Irish Socksciety – a winner of a pressie.

https://irishsocksciety.com/

“Mother of God is the immersion on? Did you turn it off?” You will get Irish themed messages like these on the socks which are made by two ladies called Joanna and Alex in Galway.

They are 80 percent cotton, there’s no harmful materials used and all packaging is recyclable.

Or if you know someone who can’t get no sleep? then splash out on some Esker Fields products.

We are nodding off just reading the ingredients in the Aromatic Sleep Pillow Mist (18.50 euro ) and a 100% cotton sleep mask looks dead comfy (9 euro).

There are loads of other lovely products – such as beard oil (Santa might like this one) and peppermint lip balm.

Made by trained aromatherapist Maria who lives in County Louth she has her own therapy practice and she knows what works.

Something tasty is always a good bet for the foodie in your life – and sure we are all foodies now.

We are loving the look of the delicious yummy jars of delight from Gran Grans Food products.

Made in small batches in Kilcolgan, Galway this set  of three will set you back 13.50 euro.

You get a red roasted pepper with chilli & tomato relish –  a tasty dip if having people over or an instant way to jazz up a pitiful omelette and the sweet chilli sauce will pep up those chicken goujons on a weekday in December and you deserve that upgrade to your cheese sandwich a dollap of the roasted pepper and tomato relish will deliver.

There is a super selection available at the fair and the website will tip you off about many of the suppliers featured – from funky prints to luxurious scarfs.

And if you are broke, or can’t make it, you can get ideas for what YOU want from the website and start dropping a few hints for your more solvent loved ones.

No harm in giving present buyers a little steer we say.

Happy hunting!!
