Robbie Irwin

About Me:

Since I was a tiny bunny I wanted to work in radio and after spells with Dublin pirates Vanessa Ard and Big D, I was lucky to part of the start of Radio 2 as it was – cominatcha! Here I produced many big names including Gerry Ryan, Marty Whelan, Dave Fanning, Ian Dempsey and Mike Moloney.  Millenium Radio was my happiest period in RTE radio and after that I worked for Century, Radio Ireland and Today FM where I won ‘Sports Broadcaster Of The Year’.  I returned to RTE Sport and spent many happy years in both TV and radio sport, where I was producer/presenter on The Olympics, Sunday Game, Soccer World Cups, Champions League, 6 Nations Rugby, Cheltenham Racing Festival and many more events.  I’ve been responsible for several radio shows including Saturday and Sunday Sport on Radio 1 and more recently for Game On on 2FM.  But my favourite show was The Sportsbag which I presented and produced, proudly for 8 years on RTE.

I’m a huge Sports fan and in particular love GAA Racing and Rugby, but I remain loyal to Man Utd and travel over regularly to Old Trafford as we are season ticket holders (although there’s very little to cheer about at the moment!).  I’m currently studying Photography and hope to develop (get it) that interest further.  I’m a great fan of music in particular The Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Anita Baker, Adele, Coldplay and many more and still love to collect vinyl and cd’s to top up my collection.

Why Christmas FM:

I’ve been a huge fan of Christmas FM since it started and was thrilled to be asked to present on the station. It brings the spirit and soul of the season throughout the festive period and does so much for it’s charity partner. Christmas FM brings all the joy of the season in spades and I’m delighted to play a small part.

My Favourite Christmas Food:

You can’t beat the old reliables TURKEY and HAM and all the trimmings

My Favourite Christmas Movie:

The Apartment – Jack Lemmon and stop calling me Shirley Mc Laine

My Favourite Christmas Tradition:

Where I’m From:

Born in Dublin and spent all of my childhood and teenage years in Santry. Moved to Marino and returned almost to home, to Glasnevin where I’ve lived very happily for almost 25 years. I’ve 3 gorgeous sons Conor, Sean and Daragh and a beautiful Grandson Harry, who lights up our lives and our Christmas. I would love to lose some weight and I keep trying by walking and swimming regularly. I enjoy cooking for family & friends and relish debates over the dining table.

My Elf Name is:
