Gareth O’Connor actually started his radio career on Christmas Eve 1987 as a music presenter with K.I.T.S 101 in Monaghan Town. He later became the country’s youngest news editor and programme controller at the dawn of commercial radio in Ireland with Northern Sound Radio. Gareth worked as a news and programme presenter with LMFM Radio in the North-East, before joining national independent station Century Radio as a newsreader in 1991. After Century’s closure Gareth spent two years at Dublin’s 98FM as a news presenter with the station and its national news network, Ireland Radio News.

Gareth joined RTE in 1994 and spent nearly twenty years with the national broadcaster, where he became a mainstream news reporter and presenter on radio and television. For a decade Gareth was the special TV reporter assigned to cover Santa’s departure from the North Pole for RTE television.
