Previous winner The Ivy Sisters, whose song ‘Mele Kalikimaka’ won the Aldi Christmas FM Song Contest in 2020 said: “We are still buzzing! Winning The Christmas FM Song Contest was just so exciting for us. We worked hard to launch our trio and then the pandemic took it all away in a heartbeat but 2020 ended with a bang when our version of Mele Kalikimaka was voted the Aldi Christmas FM Song Contest winner for 2020. When it was announced on air, we screamed the house down and definitely hit some very high notes! Hearing our song played on radio was amazing. You could bottle that feeling: every time we hear the intro for Mele Kalikimaka on Christmas FM! Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii’s way to say Merry Christmas to you!”
Walter Hegarty, co-founder of Christmas FM, said: “Every Christmas is an opportunity to come together through music after the year that was. We gather around to enjoy our favourite festive classics –Mariah, Slade, Bing and so many more. The Aldi Christmas FM Song Contest is a fabulous chance for singers and songwriters to stretch their musical wings, add their name to that famous list and have their song played across Ireland and around the world on Christmas FM.”

Christmas FM will be celebrating its 14th year on air this year and, since it began broadcasting, has raised over €2.7 million for a range of charities. Christmas FM recently announced Barnardos, Ireland’s leading children’s charity, as the official charity partner for 2021. Christmas FM is aiming to raise over €250,000 which will go directly towards Barnardos’ mission of working to give vulnerable children living in disadvantaged communities a better chance – because childhood lasts a lifetime.
This year Christmas FM is generously supported by sponsors including premier FM sponsors Cadbury, Coca-Cola and An Post which ensures that all on-air fundraising and donations will go directly to Barnardos. Christmas FM will be broadcasting from the offices of askpaul.ie who have kindly donated the studio space this year. The station is run each year by a core management team, assisted by more than 100 volunteers who devote hundreds of hours of their time.
