Winterval, the largest Christmas festival in Ireland, is back in Waterford city, and this year it is bigger and better than ever. Presenting a brand-new interactive Wizards + Dragons exhibition with animatronic dragons, Winterval also sees Santa’s Grotto returning to the enchanting 750-year-old Choristers Hall and Undercroft at Waterford’s Medieval Museum. The eighth annual Winterval features over 60 free and ticketed events and runs until 23 December 2019 with some attractions running until 5 January 2020.
Attracting over 500,000 visitors each year, the programme for Ireland’s Christmas Capital includes returning Winterval favourites - Winterval On Ice, the 600sqm ice rink of real ice now located at Bolton Street Car Park; while visitors can journey through the heart of Waterford city on the Winterval Express Train and Horse Drawn Sleigh. The iconic big wheel, Waterford Eye, is at Merchants Quay and a brand-new 3D music and lights show for Winterval Illuminates takes place at Cathedral Square.
Further highlights include a never-before-seen free Spraoi festive wonderland, Spraoi na Nollag at Constitution Square along with a free Outdoor Cinema at The Applemarket, with The Polar Express on Saturdays and It’s A Wonderful Life on Sundays.
